Launch Event
The City of London Corporation is delighted to be partnering with City Veterans CIC to host this launch event, supported by Janus Henderson Investors. Attendees will have the opportunity to meet veterans and reservists from a range of different City-based workplaces of all sizes and sectors, and hear from some prominent speakers (see below). Light refreshments will be served. Speaker details are below.

Veterans in the Square Mile, serving the veterans and reservist community of the City of London, is one of a series of City Belonging Networks being convened by the City of London Corporation.
Meet our Speakers
Michael Cole-Fontayn
Michael is Chairman of the Chartered Institute for Securities and investment and a Patron for City Veterans CIC.
He previously spent 35 years with BNY Mellon, the last seven as Chairman, Europe, Middle East & Africa.
In addition to his role at CISI, Michael is an Independent Board Member for JPMorgan Securities plc, and Financial Markets Standards Board. He is recent past Chairman of Association for Financial Markets in Europe (AFME) He is also a member of the Official Monetary and Financial Institutions Forum Advisory Board and on the Leadership Council of CityUK.
Michael is Trustee of the mental health charity, the Charlie Waller Memorial Trust and of education charity, Engage with China Ltd, and a member of Court at Merchant Taylors’Co. In 2019 he was awarded an Honorary Degree of Doctor of Science (Honoris Causa) from Cass Business School.
The Rt Hon. The Lord Mayor Alastair King DL
Alastair is the Founder and Chairman of Naisbitt King Asset Management Ltd, an independent, FCA-regulated fund management firm, headquartered in the City of London.
Alastair was first elected as Common Councillor for the Ward of Queenhithe in 1999, was then elected Alderman in 2016 and served as Sheriff of the City of London 2022-2023.
As part of his 2024-2025 mayoral theme ‘Growth Unleashed’, Alastair is supporting the creation of a family of City Belonging Networks, which act as channels for two-way communication and engagement between the City of London and communities of identity, background, interest, experience, faith and more.
James R. (JR) Lowry
JR is Global Chief Operating Officer at Janus Henderson Investors.
JR began his career as an officer in the United States Air Force in 1988 in an engineering capacity and retired at the rank of Captain with two Achievement Medals and a Commendation Medal.
He has since held numerous roles at financial institutions including Fidelity Investments, McKinsey & Company and State Street, joining Janus Henderson in 2021.
He graduated summa cum laude with a BS in engineering from Duke University, and an MS in electrical engineering from Northeastern University, and an MBA from Harvard Business School.
He currently oversees operations, technology, data governance and architecture among other important functions, and is a member of Janus Henderson’s Executive Committee.
