City Belonging
Champions
Connect your colleagues with the City around them
City Belonging Champions are nominated ambassadors for their workplaces, who connect their colleagues to the opportunities, networks and civic life of City.
The City Belonging Project is the City of London Corporation worker engagement initiative, helping you and your colleagues feel more connected to the City, and to the community, networks and opportunities around them.
In partnership with businesses and their staff networks, we’ve brought thousands of people together for events and activities, exchanging ideas, forging new cross-sector connections and creating a stronger sense of belonging across the Square Mile.
We are now asking every City workplace to nominate a City Belonging Champion to act as the main link between your organisation and the City of London Corporation. The role is designed to complement existing engagement and staff network activity, helping organisations stay connected to opportunities, networks and civic life across the Square Mile.

Role Description
The City Belonging Champion will:
Be appointed by your workplace to act as the primary point of contact between your organisation and City Belonging Project.
Share City Belonging Project opportunities at your workplace through internal channels, including with staff networks and senior leaders.
Explore potential collaborations on events, which could include hosting, co-creating, partnering or opening up suitable internal events to other City Belonging Project participants.
Champion awareness of City Belonging Networks – which serve particular communities and interests - and actively encourage participation through internal staff networks and relevant workplace channels, helping to extend cross-sector connections.
Provide insight on the activities, interests and priorities of your colleagues, including through surveys and consultations, so we can better understand and serve the needs of the Square Mile workforce.
Facilitate engagement with relevant City of London Corporation programmes, including in areas such as Young Talent, Community Safety, Public Health and Climate Action.
Nominate colleagues, including senior leaders, to attend flagship City of London community and civic events.
Champion connection, particularly for new starters, to the City’s unique cultural, heritage and civic life , complementing existing workplace induction and engagement activity.
For larger organisations, the Champion may be supported by a small network of internal “Satellite Champions” drawn from existing engagement or staff network structures.
Satellite Champions help extend awareness and participation through existing networks, while maintaining a single external point of contact with the City Belonging Project.

City Belonging Champions are workplace ambassadors who connect their colleagues to the opportunities, networks and civic life of the Square Mile while helping shape the future of the City Belonging Project and City itself.
The programme brings together nominated representatives from organisations across the City who act as a link between their workplace and the City of London Corporation, helping colleagues access opportunities while providing insight into the interests and priorities of their workforce.
-
The City Belonging Project has grown significantly since its launch in 2023, engaging thousands of workers across hundreds of organisations.
As the programme expands, we want to ensure every workplace has a clear route into the opportunities, networks and activities available across the Square Mile. The Champions programme creates a simple, scalable way for organisations to stay connected while helping us better understand and respond to the needs of City workers.
-
Champions act as the primary point of contact between their organisation and the City Belonging Project. They:
Share relevant opportunities, events and initiatives with colleagues.
