City Matzah Ramble 2025

To mark Passover, the City Jewish Network and Aldgate Connect BID are delighted to invite members to an early evening “Matzah Ramble” event - uncovering two historic synagogues that serve the Square Mile’s Jewish community.

The event will begin with an introduction at Sandys Row, just outside the City near Liverpool Street - the oldest surviving Ashkenazi synagogue in London, established in 1867. Following a brief tour, we will be guided the less than ten minute walk to Bevis Marks - the oldest synagogue in Britain, founded by the Spanish and Portuguese community in 1701. Guests will get to see these wonderful buildings, learn more about the community and its history and enjoy a kosher for Passover buffet at Bevis Marks, kindly sponsored by Aldgate BID.

The “Matzah Ramble” is a uniquely Anglo-Jewish tradition of going on hikes and picnics with family and friends during Passover. We hope that this event helps introduce more of our community to our synagogues and one another.

Participation is free, but places are strictly limited and booking is essential. Please sign up, preferably using a work email address by 9am on 10th April. If you have a Jewish network at your workplace, feel free to share this information with them.

If you have any further questions, please email belonging@cityoflondon.gov.uk

Due to overwhelming demand and limited spaces, we have closed the event sign up early.
